Mountain bike guide to The Brecon Beacons National Park & The Black Mountains - Nick Cotton
The Brecon Beacons, which also include the Black Mountains, offer the enthusiast some of the finest mountain biking in southern Britain. The limestone and red sandstone hills, rising to almost 3000 feet, are criss-crossed by hundreds of miles of byways, bridleways, unclassified roads, dismantled railway paths and forestry tracks offering something for everyonefrom the novice to the downhill head-banger. The underlying rock means that the tracks are rideable for far more of the year than those lying on the chalk and oolithic limestone south and east of Britain's Geological divide - an imaginary line drawn from Exeter to Scarborough.
The Guide features a comprehensive fold out map, based upon Ordnance Survey data from two Landranger maps clearly showing all 20 rides and significantly their relationship with one another. Now you can easily plan the time you have more effectively, riding this dramatic and beautiful area.
