Jarrold Pathfinder 48 - Suffolk

ISBN: 0-7117-1597-1

Although Suffolk's landscapes could not be described as spectacular, the riverside meadows of the Stour valley remain as beautiful today as when Constable painted them two centuries ago. Similarly, the county's lonely expanses of estuarine marsh, which are a feature of the coast, have a quality that appeal to writers as well as artists. A walk through Flatford and East Bergholt passes one of Constable's most famous viewpoints, and Flatford Mill itself.

There is a choice of coastal walks, including routes through Southwold, Shingle Street, Dingle Marshes, Thorpeness and the Shotley peninsula. The 'Three Churches' walk on the Icknield Way Path has long been famous and is a fine way of sampling the scenery in the west of the country. There are also opportunities to see the ancient burial place at Sutton Hoo, Orford Castle, Benacre Broad RSPB reserve, and attractive Suffolk villages such as Kersey and Somerleyton.
