Jarrold Pathfinder 37 - In & Around London

ISBN: 0-7117-1055-4

The walks in this guide are all within the circumference of the M25 motorway. Many people, including Londoners themselves, may be surprised by how much open, attractive and unspoilt countryside still survives in an area that is often thought to comprise little more than sprawling suburbs and congested roads.

The walks fall into three main categories: urban, suburban and rural. There are walks in the very heart of London through the City, West End, Westminster, Docklands and Chelsea mainly using a combination of roads, riverside promenades and parks. Some walks lead through oases of greenery in predominantly suburban areas, such as Horsenden Hill, Ruislip Woods and the Brent River Park. Other walks are in the rural fringes just beyond the boundaries of the capital Epping Forest and Enfield Chase, the Surrey heathlands and the North Downs. Many of these have an unexpected solitude and tranquillity normally only experienced in remote and thinly populated parts of Britain.
