Jarrold Pathfinder 28 - North York Moors

ISBN: 0-7117-0460-0

The North York Moors are bounded by the Cleveland Hills to the north, the Hambledon Hills to the west, and the Tabular Hills to the south. The circle is completed by the North Sea on the east.

Several attractive gateway towns to the region Guisborough, Pickering, Scarborough and Whitby are included in walks here, as are a number of attractive villages and hamlets such as Hutton-le-Hole and Goathland.

The solitude of the North York Moors attracted orders of monks to settle here in the Middle Ages, and there are walks incorporating the imposing remains of Reivaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey and Mount Grace Priory. Routes across wild and remote moorland, covering Ingleby Moor, Westerdale Moor and Ainthorpe Rigg, are contrasted with coastal and clifftop walks, like those at Runswick Bay and Staithes, Whitby and Saltwick Bay, and Robin Hood's Bay and Ravenscar.
