Popular walks in Llanfoist Fawr Community.
This booklet describes six enjoyable walks of varying grade and length, based on the three villages of Govilon, Llanfoist and Llanellen. These settlements are all located within Llanfoist Fawr Community, which is situated in the south eastern corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park, close to Abergavenny. Although this area is now predominantly rural, it has a rich industrial past associated with the extraction and transportation of coal, iron ore and limestone from the south Wales coalfield, a few miles further west. There are many visible relics from the industrial era which now form part of the landscape of Llanfoist.
All walks are suitable for reasonably fit walkers, but some are more energetic than others. As a rough guide the walks are graded from strenuous to easy.
The most useful map for walking around Llanfoist and Abergavenny is the double sided OS Explorer 13 - Brecon Beacons National Park - Eastern Area.
