Historical County Map of Rutlandshire

Featured on this lovely reproduction of Thomas Moule's map of Rutlandshire are images of Empingham, Burley House and Normanton Park. The smallest county of England, 15 miles in length, and ll in breadth. It is supposed to have received its name from the red colour of the soil, which, in some parts, is a sort of ruddle, staining the fleeces of the sheep. It is bounded on the W. by Leicestershire; on the N. by Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, and on the E. and S.E. by Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.........
