A county of England, bounded on the N.W. and N. by Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire; on the E. by the counties of Lincoln and Rutland; on the S.E. and S. by Northamptonshire; and on the S.W. by Warwickshire. It extends about 40 miles from N. to S. and as many from E. to W. in the broadest part. It is divided into 6 hundreds, which contain 12 market towns, and 200 parishes, the air is healthy, and the soil in general, is strong and stiff, composed of clay and marl. It affords great quantities of rich grazing land, and is peculiarly fitted for the culture of beans,.........
