Moonwatch

A complete starter pack for the lunar observer, Moonwatch contains three essential items for finding your way around the Moon:

  • Philip's Moon Observer's Guide: A practical guide to observing the Moon, suitable for absolute beginners and more experienced observers. It contains a day-by-day observing diary for the lunar month, which recommends what to look for and when. It explains the features visible on the Moon's surface, and provides instructions for recording the Moon - drawing, photography and digital imaging. With information about the equipment available, ranging from basic binoculars to large telescopes, and more than 100 photographs and drawings.
The author is the director of the Lunar Section of Britain's Society for Popular Astronomy.

  • Philip's Moon Map: A highly detailed large-format map of the near side of the Moon, drawn by Dr John Murray, a lunar expert at the Open University. More than 500 physical features are named and indexed, so that the observer can readily identify objects seen or the pick targets for a programme of observation. The chart includes a small map of the far side of the moon (never visible from the Earth). The map is accompanied by a practical guide to lunar observing, written by Peter Grego, and illustrated with diagrams and photographs.

  • Philip's Moon poster: Only available with Moonwatch, this photographic poster shows the Moon on each day of the lunar month. It is double sided, showing the phases of the Moon as seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres.
